John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful) Interview Show John Sebastian played guitar, harmonica, autoharp, and more for the short-lived but hit-heavy band The Lovin' Spoonful, dominating the radio from 1965 through 1967 in its original form. They delivered four albums proper from which came a stunning 13 charting singles, "Summer in the City" hitting #1 and "Daydream" and "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind" both reaching #2...all in the year 1966! Sebastian performed on stage at the Woodstock, Big Sur, and 1970 Isle of Wight festivals. He then went solo for four studio albums in the early-mid '70s, and struck gold once again in 1976 with "Welcome Back," the theme song for the hit TV show "Welcome Back Kotter." Since then he has kept busy touring.
